My corner of the oval

… thoughts from a Kiwi cricket fan

*raises bat*

To use a cricketing illustration, I brought up my century this week …

I’m now sitting on 101* (that symbol indicates “not out” to non-cricketing readers) in the specific job applications sent out category!

And “not out” in this case could indicate “no success so far” also 😦

101* of course doesn’t include all the CVs and “applications” I’ve sent through to the recruitment agencies, begging them to help me find full-time employment, either …

I now have a nice stack of business cards from Recruitment Consultants on my desk at home, all with varying degrees of helpfulness and success in locating job vacancies to put my CV forward for.

My run tally also includes 11 boundaries, you’ll be pleased to know 😉

Boundaries in this case being face-to-face interviews with prospective future employers 🙂

Unfortunately, none of these “boundaries” yet have led to any offer being made for a permanent job 😦

I’m starting to cramp up and feel discouraged at the length of my innings and the fact that I have yet to see any success of any kind …   I need the team water boy to come on with a rehydrating drink, fresh gloves, and a few words of encouragement and wisdom for me 😉

(Yep, that’s about how I feel right now – heh heh!)

Blog Challenge: Day 30 – my favourite song

Day 30- Your favorite song

I think I’ve already mentioned this earlier in this Challenge … but the song is so GOOD, that it’s worth mentioning again anyway 😉

My favourite song of all time is definitely You Raise Me Up.

Westlife version of my favourite tune

I think I first heard it about 15 years ago, and fell in love with the melody … not to mention the lyrics … immediately!

You Raise Me Up was written by Rolf Lovland and Brendan Graham in 2002 and released on the Secret Garden album titled “Once in a Red Moon.”

I don’t know if it’s the traditional Irish tune in the melody, or the inspirational lyrics that Brendan Graham wrote, but there’s just something about the whole “package” that inspires me and lifts me up.  I was immensely impressed the year that Russell Watson recorded and released the song on one of his albums … and even more impressed when I was privileged to actually hear him sing it live when he toured New Zealand a few years ago!

When I heard that my favourite band, Westlife, were planning to record and release the song as well in 2005, I think I actually cried, I was so blown-away that they would lend their amazing vocal abilities to such an amazing song!  Needless to say, it soon became my favourite track on the “Face to Face” album and favourite part of any concert of theirs I was privileged enough to see live.

If you have never heard the song, or even read the lyrics, and you are feeling sad or depressed about anything, I totally suggest you find a recording somewhere and just sit back and be encouraged 🙂

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

There is no life – no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

You raise me up… To more than I can be.

Blog Challenge: Day 29 – I’ve learned that …

Day 29- In this past month, what have you learned

What I’ve learned this month … is how to talk myself up in job interviews! Ha ha!

I’m not the most extroverted person at the best of times, and never like talking about myself, let alone what I think I’m good at, but having so many job interviews this month, has really helped my confidence and helped me, hopefully, come across to prospective employers a lot better 🙂

The dreaded panel interview!

What have YOU learned over the past month?  😉

Blog Challenge: Day 28 – Then and Now

Day 28- A picture of you last year and now, how have you changed since then?

August 2011

I don’t think I’ve changed a lot at all, really – well, physically speaking, anyway.

I’ve definitely changed mentally and emotionally, that’s for sure … so much has happened since this picture was taken …

Blog Challenge: Day 27 – Why am I doing this?

Day 27- Why are you doing this 30 day challenge

I started doing this Challenge really to try and inspire myself to blog regularly … possibly not every day, though 😉 … but hopefully it would get me in the habit of posting reasonably often, just in case there was anyone out there who wanted to read what I had to say – he he!

And also I wanted to see if I could complete all the challenges … I mean, that’s the point of a challenge usually anyway, isn’t it?!  😉

What about you?  Have you ever posted a blog, or completed a blog challenge?  What did you think of it and would you do another challenge?

Blog Challenge – Day 26: What I think of my friends …

Day 26- What you think about your friends

I love my friends, cause over the years, if it hadn’t been for them, I think my life would have been just that much more difficult to get through!

My friends have a way of being able to commiserate and empathise, but at the same time, encourage me to be better and work harder to get what I deserve and need at the time 🙂

I don’t have a HUGE ocean of friends … rather a close knit pool in which different friends understand and share different aspects and parts of my life.

Family is necessary and vital to help grow and mould you through your lifetime, and to always be there for you … but friends add the seasoning to just add that much more to each day of your life 🙂

Blog Challenge: Day 25 – What’s in my bag?

Day 25- What I would find in your bag

 Actually, nothing right now 😉  Heh heh … I’m not one of these people that has a tonne of things in their handbag either, and I empty it out when I get home too hence why there’s nothing in it right now 😉

Usually though, I just have the boring stuff like wallet, cell phone, keys, lip stick, lip gloss … and camera and i-pod if I’m going to be sightseeing or travelling!  🙂

What’s in your bag?

Blog Challenge – Day 24: Letter to my Parents

Day 24- A letter to your parents

I’ll keep this brief – don’t want to bore you all with soppy stuff 😉

To the best Mum and Dad ever,

I just want to say THANK YOU … thank you for bringing me into this world; thank you for giving me such an enjoyable, full and caring upbringing; thank you for showing me how great communication and respect and love makes for nearly 45 years of living together as a married couple (I’d like to say I’d like to be able to match that some day, but I’d have to start pretty soon and we’d be almost 100 if we got to your milestone – tee hee!); thank you for being there for me every day of my life, even when I didn’t want you to be 😉 ; and thank you for the support, encouragement and love through the tough times as well as the good!

Love Jess xxx

Blog Challenge – Day 23: cravings

Day 23- Something you crave for a lot

I have really bad cravings at the moment … for potato chips!

I mean, I guess it could be worse, cause I could be craving sweet treats and things loaded with sugar … but is craving baked, fried and fatty treats any better?!  😉  Heh heh!

Good thing it’s a good day for a bike ride today …

Blog Challenge – Day 22: The Difference in Me

Day 22- What makes you different from everyone else

Is this a time to blow my own trumpet?  😉

Never been good at that actually – tee hee!

I have an idea, though; how about YOU guys leave me a comment (or two!) and tell me what YOU think … good idea?  Well, I’d actually quite like to know what you think of me anyway … please can you leave me a comment, even just one word, of your opinion or impression of me … I look forward to reading what you have to say 🙂
