3rd test - day 5 team song

I got so caught up in our New Zealand Black Caps WINNING the 3-test series in the West Indies (2 tests to 1) at the end of June, that I forgot to blog about it!

I mean, there is not really much that can be said other than enjoying the moment!  The first innings from both sides was fairly even with “Man of the Series” Kane Williamson again being our anchorman at number 3 (even though he didn’t quite reach a half century on this occasion!) and the New Zealand boys putting together a handy first innings score.  Followed on by the usual whinging from the critics that 293 was never going to be enough, and having to reassure people that in test cricket, you ALWAYS wait and see what happens in the game after BOTH teams have batted once!

Needless to say, the West Indians only managed 317 in reply, themselves, with New Zealand’s ever-ready and ever-reliable, Neil Wagner, picking up 4/64!

The second innings was a much better effort from our boys and again Kane Williamson showed his eternal class in hitting a brilliant 161 (not out) to enable his captain to declare on the fourth day and set the West Indians a target.  Which they didn’t look like ever achieving after Messrs Tim Southee and Trent Boult (aka the world’s most under-rated test opening bowlers!) got rid of key wickets at key times, to once again enable the Black Caps to dismiss the West Indians again in the Series!

Cue scenes like the one above, where the team song will be starting to be well known by all involved and once again got a good airing!

And I think Brendon McCullum sums it up nicely:

“Very special, three series, three series wins a row, two at home, people were asking are we just a team that can play well at home, are we good enough to play away from home, how good is this team, I think we are showing how good we can be, we are nowhere near the finished product but we are starting to play the brand of cricket and the style of cricket that people want to follow.”

I for one definitely cannot wait for the next test series these guys play, just to be able to watch their continued progress and improvement in all areas of this sport!

It’s going to be good, so don’t be a cynic – strap in and enjoy the ride 🙂
